Isn't Kraftwerk a cheese factory?

I personally wouldn’t judge their influence based solely on their contribution to hip hop, which is probably minimal.

Much more of an influence on early synth and dance music pioneers.

Re: Florian Schneider leaves the Autobahn
I dunno. As for early hip hop per se, it used all sorts. That bongo version of Apache, disco, rock, reggae. By the time Bambaataa used Kraftwerk's "Numbers" on "Planet Rock" (1980l he was also listening to the Yellow Magic Orchestra and Gary Numan.

Kraftwerk WERE influential, no question, but not the whole source. Spoonie Gee was sampling Carl Perkins! The HARDWARE was the most influential thing, arguably. And the hip hop artists' ideas.

But, as said, probably neither the time nor place.

Though Kraftwerk did pioneer one thing - COMPLETELY miming live. I love that rumour that all they did on their computers (live)) in the latter days was simply send each other emails. The scamps.

Anyway, I'm off to listen to some Gil Scott Heron.

Still doesn't eclipse Kraftwerk though.

Black Sabbath perhaps JimmyT.
Niche perhaps but so many metal genres are down to them and they crept into Hip-Hop too.

I’m struggling to think of too many more influential bands, to be honest.

Re: Florian Schneider leaves the Autobahn
Well, The Guardian once had a piece calling Kraftwerk "the most influential band in music ever." That got a few LOLs. For being overstated.

As one cove on the comments said of their influence on hip hop: "Billy Squire had a bigger influence on hip hop!" I could see their point.

I think it’s difficult to overstate the influence of Kraftwerk on popular music.

Re: Florian Schneider leaves the Autobahn
Fair play. Kraftwerk are due much respect for who they influenced but I personally found them very, very limited and not as interesting as many chin-stroking critics would have it. The star was the tech and just an initial marketing idea: though I guess that was the point.
Still, neither the time nor the place. RIP.

Was too young to remember Kraftwerk but they heavily influenced Ultravox which I did get into so RIP to the fella.

Listening to Autobahn changed this spotty punk's attitude to music completely.
Telling that Kraftwerk haven't released an album since Florian left.
